Hundreds of IT Professionals Gather to Dot-Commiserate During Region's First-Ever Pink Slip Party
June 1, 2001

Pink Slip Party #2 planned for June 6th in Manayunk

Philadelphia, PA - More than 400 IT professionals and dozens of industry recruiters demonstrated that the Philadelphia region's high-tech sector is alive and well during the area's first-ever Pink Slip Party, Wednesday on Wed. April 25th. It was such a great event, Pink Slip Party #2 has been planned for June 6th at the Arroyo Grille in Manayunk.

Sponsored by JobCircle.com and radio station Y100, the Pink Slip Party was open to recently downsized, about-to-be-fired, or wishing-to-be-canned IT workers and recruiters. It was a combination of not-so-happy hour and a career fair and was promoted as a way for those most affected by the industry downturn to dot-commiserate while networking for new employment opportunities.

"With so many people taking part in this event, I think it's safe to say that the IT industry in the Philadelphia region is alive and well," said Joe Stubblebine, president of JobCircle.com.

A growing national phenomenon, the Pink Slip Party concept originated in New York and has spread to California, Washington, Europe, and now Philadelphia. The events gather together hundreds of dot com workers and sympathizers to honor the passing of the companies that have shut their doors or have downsized in recent months.

With the more than 400 people and dozens of recruiters from companies like Devon Consulting, Contemporary Staffing Solutions, Comcast and Siemens, event organizers said the success of the region's first-ever Pink Slip Party will likely lead to more.

"The success of this event cannot be ignored," said Bob Etheridge, vice president of marketing. "Hopefully, we'll be able to bring this kind of event to other areas of the JobCircle community in the coming months."
